An Easy Crochet Small Heart To Bring Amigurumi To Life

When I was growing up, I loved build-a-bear. I always wanted to work there, because I loved the idea of creating bears and the magic of helping kids give their bears hearts.

While I haven’t ever actually worked at build-a-bear, I still get to create my own stuffed animals, and can’t finish them without making a crochet small heart to go inside them and bring them to life.

I love how amigurumi animals are even more unique than the animals you could get at build a bear, that you can make whatever you want.

So naturally, when I started making crochet animals, they needed a heart! So this is an easy crochet heart to go inside your amigurumi. (Or make something else with these little hearts!)

You could make a tiny bunting or decoration with these little hearts too!

So how do you make this crochet small heart? It’s easy!

To make this work for almost everyone, I’ve put in this pattern in US terminology, a chart, and UK terms!

Add this to your notebook on Ravelry!

What You’ll Need:

Yarn of any color, a small scrap piece should work! For sport weight/10ply, all you really need is 2 meters (2 yards).

Any crochet hook that will work with the yarn you’re using (see images for size suggestions!)
Darning needle
Scissors

Gauge does not matter!

Size

These are some sizing images to explain what size the heart will be depending on the hook and yarn you use!

Crochet Small Heart Pattern US Terms

Pattern

Essentially, this pattern will start with big stitches and go down to the point, then work it’s way back up to big stitches around a magic loop.

Not sure how to make a magic loop? Here’s a good video!

Start by making a magic loop. You’ll be working in this magic loop for the entirety of the heart. All of your stitches will end up in this loop!

Chain 3. Then into the magic loop: tr, dc, hdc, hdc, sc, picot, sc, hdc, hdc, dc, tr, chain 3. Sl the chain 3 into the center of the magic loop. Then pull the magic loop tight.

Tie off the yarn, and weave in the ends!

And that’s it, you’ve made yourself a tiny heart that can easily bring your crochet animal to life, or make a bunch and use them as confetti!
